Tips on How to Have Great Looking Skin
Follow a regular facial treatment program
A facial treatment program is like a body fitness program - to achieve and maintain results, it must be done on a consistent basis. While initial results can be dramatic, the progressive improvement after one year of regular facial treatments is truly remarkable! Simona can help you plan the best facial treatment program to meet your specific needs.

Cleanse twice daily
A morning cleansing removes the waste excreted during your skin's nocturnal self-cleansing process. An evening cleansing ensures removal of dirt, oil, pollution and make-up accumulated throughout the day.

Tone twice daily
Toner prevents dehydration from tap water residue and also restores acid balance and refines the pores (picture the glass door in your shower if you think that water leaves your skin "clean.")

Exfoliate your face once a week
The purpose of exfoliation is to remove the dead skin cells from the face, refine skin texture, brighten skin complexion, prevent skin blemish formation, and help the creams and serum to penetrate better into the skin.

Drink plenty of water.
Your skin needs lots of water to function properly.  Avoid caffeine drinks, alcohol, and chocolates. Also, sip small amounts (3-4 ounces) at a time.

Do not handle your face.
"Picking" is a common nervous habit that leads to breakouts and scarring. Be more aware of hand-to-face contact. Continuous contact with your hands can spread the bacteria that cause acne.

Protect your skin from the sun.
Your sun exposure "history" directly contributes to the aging of your skin. There are other factors, but sun exposure contributes up to 90% of the skin aging process. The only thing worse than prolonged sun exposure is cigarette smoking! I strongly recommend the use of sunblock every day during Summertime, even when it is not sunny. Always apply sunscreen 30 to 40 minutes before sun exposure, to allow the active ingredients to begin working. If you have a sun allergy, use a block with Titanium Dioxide.

Get adequate sleep.
Your skin will tell on you if you are sleep deprived or exhausted. Without adequate sleep, your body cannot completely restore and repair itself. Over time, your skin will appear drab, ashen, and unhealthy. The following tips can help you sleep better:

  • Refrain from consuming caffeine, alcohol, and smoking about 6 hours before bedtime.
  • Plan your days to get up and go to sleep about the same time every day.
  • Always keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet - associate your room with sleep.
  • Never eat a large meal close to bedtime; the discomfort of being full will hinder your sleep.

Feed your skin.
If you are on a low fat diet, make sure you get enough essential fatty acids (EFA's ) or your skin can become dull and dry.
Flax seed is an excellent source for EFA's, as well as soy products, such as tofu. Be sure to eat plenty of green, leafy vegetables, fruits, and grains. If your skin is acne prone, avoid iodized salt and sodium-heavy foods like processed and commercially canned food, and salted snacks.

Eat unsalted pretzels and popcorn instead and try using herbs and spices to flavour food. Let me suggest you switch to organic dairy products and meats to avoid hormonal additives. Eruptive, red skin will be irritated by spicy foods, and intolerance for dairy products underlies many acne conditions that appear to be
"cystic".

For skin prone to dilated capillaries, bioflavonoids (available as a dietary supplement in vitamin form) help strengthen vascular tissue and reduce redness and bruising. The tiny red "spiders" you may be seeing on your face are actually distended or dilated capillaries. They are caused by exposure to the sun and cold, physical exertion, stress, spice foods, caffeine, alcohol and diet. Try to avoid yogurt, chocolate, avocados, and vinegar; these are some of the foods that tend to aggravate this condition.

Avoid friction and excessive heat.
Over-stimulation from scrubbing and hot water is a prime cause of dilated capillaries on the face. Use warm water for cleansing, avoid washing your face in the direct spray of a hot shower and when applying your cleanser, use a light, circular motion. Loofahs should never be used on the face.

Reduce stress.
Stress creates disease and ages the tissues of the body, especially the skin. Exercise, yoga, aromatherapy, deep breathing, and meditation are highly effective against stress. Regular treatments a facial, or even a manicure and pedicure help to
relax and de-stress the body as well as the mind.

So, exercise, eat right, and give yourself the right amount of sleep that your body needs - your well-being will shine through your healthy skin!
